Tea-Evening “Darjeeling - The Champagne of Teas” (with tea-tasting) 7:30 p.m., Tues. 5th Dec.
Almost everyone passionate and knowledgable about tea has one tea they prefer above all others. These favourite teas are strongly dependent on personal taste and a general agreement about the best tea in the world is impossible.
But if there is any tea that most tea conoisseurs agree on to deserve this title, then it is the top-of-the-crop pickings from high slopes of the tea estates in Darjeeling.
Why is it that people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars to purchase very small quantites of these teas? What is the source of the excitement at special tastings of the first teas of a new harvest? What is the meaning of first flush and second flush?
With this tea evening, you’ll be initiated into the world of tea at its most delicate. At the end of the night you’ll know answers to the questions above and have a strong base to judge the quality of Darjeeling teas you’ll taste in the future.
This time, the focus will be stronger on the tea tasting than at previous events (more tasting, less talking). We’ll have several teas side-by-side to give you the opportunity to make direct comparisons, discover subtle differences and appreciate the individual characteristics of different estates.
We haven’t compiled the complete list of the teas we’ll try, but we’ll definitely try this year’s superb Makaibari Silver Tips (first flush) and last year’s Margaret’s Hope China (second flush) and White Delight (white tea).
