Greenpeace Presents “Whale-Love Wagon” at the teahouse
The Whale-Love Wagon is an initiative of Greenpeace Japan to educate Japanese about whales and whaling.
The 2 passengers of the wagon, Koinuma Yuki and Ivan Rigual, set out on a 10-week journey through Japan to visit places and people involved with whales. On their journey, they travel to whaling ports, interview people in the streets, gather facts from professionals and share their acquired knowledge via their unique internet documentary. By talking to a wide range of people from marine scientists to former harpoon gunners, they’re trying to present an accurate view about whales and their role in Japanese culture.
Since ancient times seeing whales has struck us with awe and with a craving to understand the mysteries hidden in the deep seas. With compassion when they wash up on our shores. And with love.
The “Whale-Love Wagon” is a series of internet TV programs designed to seize this love and share it with the world.
(quote from whale-love wagon site)
The Whale-Love Night at the teahouse is presented by Greenpeace Christchurch and is intended to encourage and inspire people of all ages to learn about the pro-conservation campaign to save the whales from illegal and unnecessary slaughter. After a brief introduction of the work of Greenpeace Japan, we’ll watch the episodes of the whale-love wagon documentary (in Japanese w/ English subtitles). Of course, we’re gonna prepare some nice tea and hopefully have some interesting discussions.
