Ragamuffin Children finish “Werecat Lullabies” tour with tea party at Ya-Ya’s on September 8
Our favourite local artists - the fabulous Ragamuffin Children - are visiting us for another show (sadly, the last one for the Werecat Lullabies tour) at the teahouse. After playing a fantastic gig at our first birthday party and opening for Black Market Art last week, they’ll finally have their much deserved headliner-status for the concert on Saturday, September 8.
For those of our readers who aren’t familiar the the Ragamuffin Children, a quick introduction to the band and their debut album Werecat Lullabies.
Brooke and Anita formed the Christchurch duo Ragamuffin Children in 2006 and released their debut album Werecat Lullabies in June on She’ll Be Right Records. Although their career has just started, they have much to show for it. Opening a show for Goldenhorse secured them a record deal, live appearances on National Radio and television gave them nation-wide exposure & their debut album topped the KiwiFM album charts!
The Ragamuffins strike a chord. Their dreamy, melancholic music feels equally original and familiar, creating a feeling of cosiness and comfort. Anita’s brilliant compositions let you discover new aspects even after many listens and Brooks’ beautiful, classically trained voice just won’t leave your thoughts. Maybe it is the deliberate “vagueness” of their lyrics, but it is easy to relate to the songs.
Is it all that there is to it: we live and then we die? Make some money in between so maybe we can survive. It just doesn’t seem that it should be this way so simply, it just doesn’t seem that we should be a slave to society. (”Ebony Skies”)
We love the Ragamuffins and we love to have them perform in the teahouse. They love tea and tea parties. So we’ll have a big tea party together!
They’ll have support from Chester Travis and promised to play a fantastic show. Tickets are available for $10 ($6 unwaged) from Real Groovy and at the door. Space is very limited, so make sure to get your tickets early!
The show starts at 8:30 p.m. on September 8, doors open by 8 p.m.
