Ya-Ya’s Tea-Board

News from the Teahouse, about tea and more

Did you ever want to own a memento from one of your favourite businesses without stealing it? Here’s your chance!

Ya-Ya furniture

Hi all,
after Diane’s post yesterday announcing the closing of the teahouse, we’ve received a large amount of emails with your best wishes, expression of sadness, etc. Thank you so much for all your compassion and condolences, it helps to ease our pain.

Unfortunately, life goes on and we have to deal with the practical consequences of closing the teahouse. Since it was (I still have a hard time getting used to the past tense) a rather large locality and our home simply won’t fit all the beautiful things from Ya-Ya’s interior, we’ve decided to give you an option to own a souvenir from your Ya-Ya teahouse.

How would you like to own your favourite cushion from the platform seating or even one of our 3 bamboo tables? Or maybe you want to refurbish your lounge and always wished you had something like our hugely popular (especially the corner seats) sofa.

Now is your chance!
We’ve listed some of Ya-Ya’s interior on trademe for auction. Have a look, maybe you’ll find a piece you alway wanted. And tell your friends, the ones that you know need a new table, chair, etc. You know the furniture, many of you have used it like it was in your living room.

To answer the question that many of you will surely have: No, the incredibly big and incredibly RED wall is NOT for sale on trademe! We’ll not be able to remove it, so sorry for that.

I’m sorry to learn that the physical store is closing.

From the title of this post above, it seems you experienced quite a bit of attrition from thefts (?).

    Hi Phyll,
we were lucky enough not to have a problem with theft. Well, lucky is probably the wrong term since people really cherished what we offered them (there’s no place else in New Zealand where you can have gong-fu cha from Yixing pots) and took extra care with the wares.

The title is based on my experiences as a student when some people I knew resorted to this type of souvenir-hunting due to a lack of funds. But it is also quite common in the bar industry that people steal glasses. I never thought that the title could be interpreted like that, but it is blatantly obvious to me now how one can misread it.

Thanks for stopping by, I’ll send you a personal email some time soon. I really enjoy reading your blog.

There are no items listed! Are they all gone? :(

@Melissa: The auctions have finished, but we still have lots of stuff. I’ll probably re-list some furniture this weekend, but will also send you an email tonight with a list of items still available.

Did you ever want to own a memento from one of your favourite businesses without stealing it?…

Here’s an innovative idea of how to market a trademe auction. Bid in an auction for a souvenir from a well-loved business rather than stealing it (which, in turn, would hurt the business).
A great concept of marketing your auctions……
