News from the Teahouse, about tea and more

New year, new energy

 [ IMAGE Having tea at Shambhala teahouse ] I know it’s been a while since my last post, but Diane and I just were ready for some holidays after an eventful year that saw us closing our beloved teahouse and moving into a quickly growing online-based tea business. After a busy Christmas season (which saw many of you equipped with exciting new teas and teaware), we took a couple of weeks off to stay at home, tend the garden and get started into the new year.

Then, in the beginning of February, we went on a  little holiday up to Takaka Hill & Golden Bay, where we had many tea sessions with really cool people and in really beautiful settings. Canaan Downs up on Takaka Hill is an amazing place and celebrating gong fu tea up there was definitely special. Down in Golden Bay, we stayed at the beautiful Shambala, a hostel/yoga retreat with the most stunning purpose-build teahouse I’ve seen in New Zealand (see the picture at the beginning of this post).

 [ IMAGE Drinking tea by the sea ] But now we’ve got plenty of energy to put back into Ya-Ya. So it was quite fitting that 2 shipments of some fantastic Chinese green teas and oolongs just arrived last week, including a spectacular organic Dancong Oolong (to which I want to devote a detailed post in the near future), an organic Autumnal Tie Guan Yin from AnXi, more of our popular organic Wuyi Oolong, as well as new supplies of both, organic Nonpareil Jasmine Pearls and Dragon Pearls, and a few other new green teas.

Have a browse through our updated price list, we have marked down some of the teas considerably to move existing stocks and make room for the new spring harvests which will be arriving in the next 2-3 months.

    I had just been wondering what happened to you guys! The parcels of tea have gone down a treat here. We’re ready to order some more soon.

    The “Tea” Houses in Munich are not to standard! You’ve spoiled us!

    @Scott:
    You are right, we certainly need to catch up soon. Maybe in the new venture in the near future in New Brighton? And writing about tea I will. My problem is actually that I have so much in my head that I want to write about, it’s hard to decide and get started on one article.

    @Michael:
    I told you that the tea houses in Germany might be under-impressing to you. Nothing beats Christchurch, right? It is possible to hunt down some decent leaves, but it requires some dexterity to not end up with some toffee or cinnamon apple flavoured brew in one of the many German “tea” shops.
    But I can check into shipping options if you like (actually, I have another friend/customer in Germany who might be keen to split shipping cost).

    Hi Jo, I can’t risk drinking cinnamon and/or apple “tea”. I have too much credibility to lose now. We’ll be ordering tea from you guys soon enough, split-shipping is a fine idea! I’ll be in touch soon.
