Ya-Ya’s Tea-Board

News from the Teahouse, about tea and more

We have started shipping again after the Christchurch earthquake

[ IMAGE: dusty roads in Christchurch ] Most households have power restored and many have water supply, which is weak at times and always requires boiling before doing anything with it. (You’d be amazed how much this little detail changes your day…)
Now, a major problem is the dust that stems from the enormous amounts of silt the ground liquefaction brought to the surface. Strong winds over the last couple of days only made matters worse.

[ IMAGE: Christchurch damage ] While the realization of the extent of last week’s earthquake sets in, the people here in Christchurch have a strong desire and need to regain some sort of “normality” in the chaos that surrounds us. For us, that means to resume sending out tea orders. So, a couple of days ago, I phoned round the city’s post offices to find open branches. As luck had it, a few post offices at the western side of town are open. So, I packed the orders, put on my dust mask, loaded everything on the bike and pedaled across town to send off the first orders after last week’s earthquake. Oh, how good that felt.

So, if you have ordered tea with us in the last 10 days, expect it to arrive soon! Also, the monthly package of tea for our members of the Tea of the Month-Club will arrive a few days late this month. We’re trying to return to our “normal” mode of operation as quickly as possible, but the constant stress of frequent aftershocks makes efficiency and concentration a challenge. Thanks for your understanding and support.

Following a few photos I took on rides across the suburbs.

    Hi,

I am really interested in using your photo with the cracked road and traffic cone. I don’t suppose you have a high resolution version that I can buy off you? If so, what would be the price.

    Thanks,

    Arun

    Hi Arun,
I’ve sent you a personal email with details about that.

    Thanks,
    Jo
