Losing weight with oolong tea - a personal account

[ IMAGE: Freshly brewed tea ] Almost 4 years ago, I wrote a hugely popular article on this blog where I investigated the scientific evidence behind using oolong tea for losing weight. It attracted (and still does) many comments and was a go-to place for many people interested in finding out whether there was anything behind the miracle-like marketing claims that some wulong distributors use.

I have many regular customers that purchase our Organic Wuyi Rock Tea and seeing that they continue to order and drink this tea made me believe that it seemed to be working for them. But despite some questions on my side into the effectiveness on individual customers (understandably, it is a rather delicate subject), I have never gotten much of a feedback. Until recently, that is.

The other day, I got an extremely enthusiastic email from one of our regulars, giving me some insight into how drinking our oolong tea works for him in his quest to lose weight. He gave me permission to share his experience with you and here is what he has to say:

I would highly recommend the Organic Wuyi Rock Tea to help promote weight loss. I have been using it since Christmas 2010 and have lost 13kg in the last 5 months. I did a lot of research on this tea and found out it promotes weight loss 300% more than other teas. I combined this with eating smart and exercise and the rest is history. Besides, the tea tastes great.

While it is good to read about the scientific evidence of certain medical properties of tea, it is ultimately the personal, human experiences that we relate to much more easily.
I’ve always been curious of how much of an effect drinking oolong teas has on people (I’m skinny and drink so much tea, I wouldn’t be able to attribute any effect to a specific tea). Peter’s feedback is definitely an important part in the puzzle for me and I think the change in his habits (eating smart and adding exercise) played a major role in his success. One other thing that I have heard from some of my customers was the fact that drinking oolong tea somehow diminished their desire for sweets and served as an inspiration for a healthier lifestyle.

If you had any experience - good or bad - with drinking oolong tea to control your weight, I would like to invite you to share your experience with us in the comments below.

    Hi Mike,
there aren’t really any fixed numbers on that, but my suggestion would be to start off with about 2-3 cups a day. It’s hard to overdo tea, but you should always apply common sense…
